ในพิธีทั้งหลายเหล่านี้ตามคติและตำรา
ต้องมีการกำหนดฤกษ์ยาม
การดูตำแหน่งเปิดหน้าดิน ดูตำแหน่งลงเสาเอก ดูตำแหน่งตอกเสาเข็ม
รวมถึงรายละเอียดของพิธีกรรมตามลำดับ ตามขั้นตอนที่ถูกต้อง
เพราะฉะนั้น…

Before building a house, a building, or various structures, why do Thai people place importance on performing a **groundbreaking ceremony**, laying the principal pillar, laying foundation piles, laying the foundation stone, and informing the guardian spirits of the place?
These ceremonies are performed in order to choose an auspicious time and achieve victory.
## 1. The Relationship Between Thai People and the Land
Actually, these traditions did not just begin recently.
They reflect the beliefs and way of life of Thai people toward the **land** for a long time.
For Thai people in the past, the land was not merely an area for constructing buildings.
There was also a belief concerning **Phra Mae Thorani**, who is a symbol of the one who takes care of the land and fertility.
Before entering to mark out the ground, dig, bury, fill, pour, construct, or change the land, there was therefore a tradition of informing and showing respect to the land.
This was done for auspiciousness in beginning to construct something new at that place.
## 2. Phra Mae Thorani, Guardian Spirits, and Ta Yai
In addition to the belief concerning Phra Mae Thorani, in the beliefs of Thai people, there is also the matter of **“Jao Thi, Jao Thang,”** the guardian spirits of the place.
There is also **“Ta Yai,”** or sacred beings who are believed to have taken care of and protected that place for a long time.
The details of these beliefs, which have been passed down, are all traditions of informing the land before beginning the construction of something important.
These things therefore reflect the concept that…
Before human beings enter to change that place and that piece of land, we should first show respect to that place.
## 3. The Meaning of the Groundbreaking Ceremony
And this is the origin of the concept of the
**“Groundbreaking Ceremony,”
“Opening the Earth,”
“Laying the Principal Pillar,”
“Laying Foundation Piles,”
and “Laying the Foundation Stone.”**
The performance of these things therefore has a ritual meaning.
They are symbols of the beginning of construction work.
They are a way of informing the owner of the land in order to ask for auspiciousness before beginning to construct something new upon that piece of land.
## 4. The Beginning of the Construction Site
When beginning to enter the stage of establishing the construction site, setting up the construction workers’ camp, and building temporary toilets, in order to prevent fear and anxiety among the workers, there must be a request for forgiveness and a request for blessings.
This is intended so that they can concentrate fully on their work, create morale and encouragement, and have no obstacles, both physically and mentally.
## 5. Auspicious Times and the Correct Ritual Procedures
In all of these ceremonies, according to the beliefs and traditional texts, it is necessary to determine an auspicious time.
This includes determining:
* The position for opening the earth
* The position for laying the principal pillar
* The position for driving the foundation pile
* The details of the rituals in sequence
* The correct procedures for each stage
Therefore…
these ceremonies are
**“Symbols of Beginning.”**

**Rituals and engineering**, although they are not the same matter, have coexisted for a long time since ancient times, in every era and every period.
Engineering is responsible for creating permanent stability for the building.
As for rituals, they are the act of showing respect to the land by performing ceremonies and offerings to the original owner of the land, as well as to Phra Mae Thorani, the guardian spirits of the place, and those who take care of that piece of land.
These rituals create a sign of prosperity for that place,
for auspiciousness to the owner of the place.
They also create morale and encouragement for those involved—
**architects, contractors, and construction workers**—
who are beginning to undertake something important.

informing Phra Mae Thorani,
and informing the guardian spirits of the place,
therefore constitute one sequence of steps.

and it is a reflection of **culture, tradition, and beliefs** that have been passed down for a long time.

实际上……
这些传统并不是近代才产生的。
它们反映了泰国人民长期以来对于**“土地”**的信仰以及生活方式。
## 一、泰国人与土地之间的关系
